Information for prospective mentors:
There are some simple rules you should follow in order to guarantee you will be useful to the people you are mentoring:
a) You have played in at least 1 season of TF2 in a competitive league, i.e. ETF2L, wptf2l, EnemyDown, UKeSA and ESL.
b) You are in a div 4 or above clan (or the equivalent depending on the league).
c) English is not a must, however if you can not speak English well enough then you must have a corresponding language that you can speak fluently in.
This will hinder your chances of being picked as a mentor for example if you are wanting to become a mentor and you can only speak Russian, then only Russian clans will want to pick you most likely, there are some out there but not a lot so… Otherwise you must speak English to a decent level so that players can understand you, else you are not eligible to join. If you speak additional languages then added bonus
How to become a mentor:
1) Make sure you fulfill the requirements listed above!
2) Drop us an email using the ‘Contact’ page, containing all the details you see in the descriptions of other current mentors, and anything else you consider pertinent. We will review your application, and assuming all is successful, contact you in irc, and have you listed on the website within 24 hours!
Information for people who want to be mentored:
Specific Mentors:
You may request a mentor specifically, if you don’t have any particular mentor you like, then all you need to do is send us an email in the manner outlined below.
How to request a mentor:
If you would like to request a mentor, here is how you go about achieving this – Send us a request via the “Contact” page with the Questions (below) answered.
PLEASE LOOK AT THE AVAILABLE MENTORS BEFORE YOU SEND OFF FOR A REQUEST!
It’s worth knowing what mentors are available and what rating they have, before you send off a request! The format for how the request is as shown below…
PLEASE HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT YOU WANT THE MENTOR TO DO WITH YOU!
Do not send in an application to be mentored, if you don’t know what you want to get out of it. If a mentor comes to help you, and you cannot give any idea what sort of things you want help with or what you want the mentor to do, then it’s very difficult. If this is just for the mentor to sit in a match with you and give tips that’s fine, as long as you have some idea!
General Information:
Rating System:
We are aiming to make this as enjoyable, and useful for everyone involved as possible. We are therefore asking that people let us know how they found the experience, and how they felt the quality of the mentoring was.
To report your rating, contact either Byte or Joshua on irc, or send an email via the ‘Contact Us’ form, with as much information as possible. Time wasters sending bad ratings without explanations will be ignored and not allowed to participate in the scheme again.
Every mentor will be assessed at the end of 1 or 2 months depending on how long he/she has been a mentor. If his or her rating is 2.5 or above then they shall stay a mentor, but if it’s 2 or below then they are no longer are able to mentor from this project. The main reason we ask lower rated mentors to leave is that we want you, the players to learn the best possible way - if we get unhappy players after wasting their time for 1/2hours in the evening because the mentor wasn’t very good then you lose out.
Individual Player’s Request:
1) Your alias (on irc and in-game)
2) Your main class
3) The class you wish to be taught / guided on
4) Your preferred language
5) Special request (such as player on your server or ask for a specific mentor)
Clan Request:
1) Your clans name / who to contact (alias and irc name)
2) Division they are in
3) What they wish to be taught, i.e. map strategies , general basics and so on…
4) Language preferred to be spoken
5) Any Special requests (your own server, or a specific mentor and so on)
When the request comes through we may not be able to answer straight away, as some of us work for a living and have other things in life to do! So please be patient! We will try our best. As soon as a mentor decides to mentor you he will contact you!
Thanks!
