I’m happy to announce that the TF2 Mentor Project helped over 50 Clans and Players so far.  Awesome job mentors!

We are still in desperate need of mentors. We also need our current mentors to actually mentor people! (Obviously this isn’t everyone but we have quite a few mentors listed who haven’t even mentored 1 person yet!)

There are now over 40 clans and players waiting to be mentored, but the number of mentors to fulfill this demand is no where near high enough!

Hi there loyal readers!

Many of you have been asking us to include in the website some tactics help, videos, walkthroughs, guides etc. and in the future we are going to be looking at doing some of these things. At the moment, we simply do not have enough people available, or the resources in place to do this. What we do have however is one of the top scouts in the community writing a blog about how to be a scout. Anyone who plays scout would be well served by reading this, and its an excellent read, if simply to provoke your own thinking about how to play the class more intelligently, or to discuss with your mentor after reading it!

The first installment is already published, and I’m looking forward to the second.

I thought it would be nice to help some people by imparting some of my experience, and in the process give me a chance to think about my own game and try to understand why I make some of the decisions I do. I am starting off by giving a quick overview of scout tactics on Gravelpit. I chose this map to begin with specifically because this map can be really strange for scouts. Sometimes I feel utterly useless on the map, but at other times I feel the map can really give our class some special opportunities. I will give some basic and relatively standard tactics, with my most important aim being to try and explain why we make certain decisions as I think just giving out instructions for people to follow is useless.

The project has got off to a flying start, with nearly 20 people applying to be mentored, and a more than healthy crop of mentors to do the mentoring! The enthusiasm of everyone has been great so keep it coming!

A couple of people mentioned some worries about the rating system, so I wanted to give you a quote from someone who has already been mentored:

I always thought pro players where asses, since i played call of duty series against those pro people and they are total dicks. But your a good example of a nice pro player

The rating system gives a reward back to the mentors for their hard work more than anything else! If you have any nice comments for your mentor, go and look at the mentor page, and click on their name. Register an account, and leave a comment on their profile. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it!

We are *very* short on mentors at the moment. We are saving all interest that we cannot allocate to a mentor, and you will be allocated as soon as we have someone available. Thanks for the numerous emails already, we’ll do our best!

Secondly, just because you are registered/logged in when you send us an email, we do not know who sent it unless you include your name in the email!
